Pneumocystis can be spread by airborne droplets from patients with Pneumocystis pneumonia or from carriers of Pneumocystis. However, given the rarity of Pneumocystis causing pneumonia in immunocompetent populations, the risk of infection can be reduced by strengthening resistance and protection.
