Salmonella infection, the time to cure depends on the type of Salmonella, the site of infection and the severity of the disease, and cannot be generalized. If the infection is confined to the gastrointestinal tract and manifests as gastroenteritis, most patients can be cured in about 1 week. Individuals with very severe disease, or patients who are immunocompromised, such as infants and young children, the elderly, or patients with severe underlying diseases and long-term use of immune preparations, may have a longer recovery time. Salmonella may also enter the bloodstream to cause sepsis, and if sepsis is triggered, treatment may take 3-4 weeks, and may extend to 5 weeks in individual patients. Some patients may also have intravascular infections with blood flow or endocarditis, when the course of treatment is extended. In the case of specific Salmonella infections such as typhoid and paratyphoid, the patient’s condition is usually not very serious and the treatment time is usually 2-3 weeks, and most patients can be cured. However, if the disease is severe, the treatment time may reach 4-5 weeks.
