Acupuncture therapy for vertigo

  Treatment: Clearing the brain, quenching wind and relieving dizziness.  Main points: Sishencong, Fengchi, Touwei, Ruigu Supporting points: hyperactivity of liver yang plus Taichong and Taixi; phlegm blockage plus Fenglong and Zhonggui; stasis of blood blocking the orifice plus Ayi and Diayu; deficiency of qi and blood plus Foot Sanli and Qihai; deficiency of kidney essence plus Kidney Yu and Hanging Bell. For posterior circulation ischemia, add Tianzhu and Cervical Pinnacle; for vestibular neuronitis, add Hearing Palace, Liquid Gate and Dazhi (piercing cupping); for Meniere’s disease, add Hearing Palace and Zhongzhu; for benign positional vertigo, add Hearing Palace, Complete Bone and Houxi.  Acupuncture: deficiency evidence is treated with tonic method, while actual evidence is treated with diarrhea method; in case of mixed deficiency and actuality, both tonic and diarrhea are applied, usually first tonic and then diarrhea method.  Head acupuncture: posterior temporal line, inferior parietal occipital line. Moderate stimulation.  Note: 1. Acupuncture is more effective for systemic vertigo; non-systemic vertigo should be treated mainly by the primary cause. Although the causes of vertigo are different, in the acute stage of vertigo attack, all of them should be treated mainly with anti-vertigo and relief of nausea and vomiting to treat the symptoms, and then treated with evidence-based treatment in the remission stage to treat the root cause.  2. For vertigo that is ineffective or gradually aggravated by repeated treatment, the cause should be further identified and the occupying lesion should be drained.
