Can a patient with pulmonary hypertension become pregnant?

Pregnancy is not recommended for patients with pulmonary hypertension, and is currently not recommended in national and international guidelines. Although there are frequent reports on the Internet that pregnant women with pulmonary hypertension have successfully delivered through their own efforts, this is only an isolated case, because once pregnant with pulmonary hypertension, the process of pregnancy and delivery can lead to a sharp increase in pulmonary hypertension, which can cause sudden death of both the adult and the fetus. The mortality rate of pregnancy and delivery in severe pulmonary hypertension is reported to be as high as 30%-50% at home and abroad. There are also no clear guidelines on the type of contraception to be used. Because hormones may increase coagulation and also increase pulmonary hypertension, especially in postmenopausal women, if hormone replacement therapy is used, treatment with anticoagulant drugs should be added as appropriate depending on the risk of bleeding.
