What’s wrong with itchy eyes?

Eye itch is a sensation of needing to scratch following internal or external physical or chemical irritation of the eye and is one of the common discomforts of the eye. It is often accompanied by other symptoms such as conjunctival congestion, eyelid oedema and foreign body sensation, and can be caused by exposure of the eye to allergens or by lesions of the eye itself.
Itchy eyes can occur in people of all ages. It is commonly seen in immune conjunctivitis, blepharitis, trachoma, dry eye, conjunctivitis, and visual fatigue.
