Ningbo is located in the coastal area, which is a high incidence area for Mycobacterium infection. Especially fishermen and people engaged in fishery business, but also chefs, housewives and other people who are often in contact with fish and seafood. Once diagnosed, you should take anti-mycobacterial drugs immediately, and there are many such patients in my clinic. Today we will talk about some general knowledge about taking anti-mycobacterial drugs. Clarithromycin or azithromycin (both are macrolides) are the main drugs used in our clinic, and your doctor will choose one of them as your main drug, remembering that this drug needs to be taken for a long time without stopping. Except Azithromycin can be taken in different ways, such as taking it for three days and stopping it for four days. Because it has a long half-life, the effective blood concentration in the body can be maintained for 3-4 days after taking it for 3 days. Levofloxacin, (quinolones) is an adjuvant, my experience is that it can be taken intermittently, please follow the doctor’s advice. It is possible to stop using it completely in the later stages of treatment. The above two categories of drugs are metabolized by the liver and kidneys, so if you have serious liver or kidney insufficiency, please pay attention to it and inform your doctor to adjust the dosage. All patients are required to review liver and kidney function on a monthly basis. But don’t worry, we rarely see changes in liver function in the clinic. Regarding the duration of medication: the symptoms may disappear after one month for mild patients, and 3-6 months for severe patients. Generally, the medication is continued for one month after the symptoms are fully controlled to prevent relapse.
