What are the post-operative considerations for trigeminal neuralgia?

Life and living: move gently and slowly, prevent all pain-inducing factors, such as washing the face, brushing teeth, etc., and try to avoid stimulation; encourage patients to wash their faces, brush their teeth and rinse their mouths with warm water on time to maintain personal hygiene; pay attention to keeping warm on cold days and avoid cold wind blowing directly on the face; live and eat regularly, ensure sufficient sleep and rest, avoid overexertion, participate in sports appropriately, exercise and enhance physical fitness; protect the eyes. Use eye drops or rinse regularly with 3% boric acid sterilization solution to prevent corneal clouding, inflammation or edema. Nutritional conditioning: eat softer foods; for patients with chewing-induced pain, eat a liquid diet; do not eat fried foods, spicy and irritating foods, seafood products and hot foods; eat more vitamin-rich and detoxifying foods; encourage eating and prepare delicious, colorful and flavorful foods to enhance appetite and prevent malnutrition. Psychological adjustment: In the follow-up of recovered patients, we found that many of them were withdrawn, suspicious, worried about the recurrence of the disease, very sensitive to the slightest discomfort, accompanied by the habit of wearing masks and hoods, closed doors, afraid of wind and cold, etc.. All these indicate that the shadow of the disease has not dispersed and the patient has not recovered from the psychological trauma caused by the disease. Patients with such conditions should accept the doctor’s guidance, adjust their mindset and keep their moods comfortable by engaging in appropriate exercise, engaging in healthy hobbies or devoting their spirits to housework and work, etc., build up confidence in overcoming the disease and actively cooperate with the treatment.
