  Is red eye contagious just by looking at it? Red eye is a germ contact infection. However, you cannot be infected by touching your eyes with hands or objects that have been in contact with pink eye.  Although strictly speaking, patients should be isolated, there are many patients and it is unrealistic to ask everyone to take time off from work, so as long as you don’t touch your eyes with hands or objects that have touched pink eye, you won’t be infected.  June is a good time for red-eye. In early summer, the weather is hot and bacteria tend to grow and multiply, making it easy to cause an epidemic. The medical term for “pink eye” is “acute conjunctivitis”. The onset of pink eye is rapid, with an incubation period of 1 to 3 days, mostly in both eyes, at the same time or 1 – day apart. First, the eyes are red, hot, painful and itchy, and the eyelids are as uncomfortable as if they had sand in them. There is tearing, foreign body sensation, burning sensation, and the conjunctiva of the eye is congested with mucous-purulent discharge. Because of the discharge, the eyelashes often stick together and it is difficult to open the eyes when you wake up in the morning.  Experts say: “Red eye” should be prevented. To pay attention to hand hygiene, develop good habits of hand washing, do not rub your eyes with dirty hands, to cut nails diligently; one or two drops of antibacterial eye drops before and after swimming, found red eye, should be promptly isolated, all utensils should be used separately, preferably washed and dried before use. Treatment can be done by rinsing the eyes. When there is a lot of discharge from the affected eye, it is advisable to rinse the conjunctival sac with an appropriate rinse agent such as saline or 2% boric acid water 2 to 3 times a day and wipe the lid margin with a sterile cotton swab.
