Loosening of the prosthesis after hip replacement

  60-year-old male; 8 years after total hip arthroplasty; evidence of eccentric polyethylene wear and partial osteolysis behind the acetabulum; consider revision surgery for total hip replacement if the cup is loose; consider polyethylene liner replacement if the cup is not loose and the polyethylene liner is worn.  What are the most common complications of polyethylene liner replacement alone combined with bone grafting?  Postoperative hip instability with an incidence of 10-25%; other complications such as infection, failed prosthesis, sciatic nerve injury, acetabular fracture.
