Trigeminal neuralgia, an extremely painful disease, afflicts too many patients, and according to the latest literature, one in every 2,000 people suffers from trigeminal neuralgia. The youngest trigeminal neuralgia patient I saw in the clinic was only 26 years old and the oldest was 90 years old. It is extremely painful. I have been involved in the treatment of thousands of patients with trigeminal neuralgia so far. I would like to share some of my treatment experience with you here. There is no subject matter, just be realistic and say what you have. Most patients with trigeminal neuralgia are in good health, because patients who have endured trigeminal neuralgia for a long time, especially the elderly, simply cannot bear the torture of trigeminal neuralgia if they are not in good health. Patients with trigeminal neuralgia have more or less psychological disorders, because of the long-term torture, many of them have depression, or their emotions are easily out of control. Many patients prefer to believe in some advertising propaganda, take many detours and spend a lot of wasted money, rather than go to a regular hospital. Many patients have a fear of surgery and choose some simple treatments instead, resulting in recurrent attacks and more painful and unbearable relapses. Patients who take carbamazepine for a long time taste will have low white blood cells, poor coagulation, low fibrinogen in preoperative tests, bleeding tendency and risk, and need to supplement coagulation factors to complete the surgery. The cost of treatment is still a factor that bothers many patients. I saw an older woman in the outpatient clinic with very severe pain, who wanted to do the surgery herself, and her children in the department did not take the money, so she had to go home and endure it. As a doctor, I also hope that the cost of surgery can be reduced, like many rich people abroad will regularly donate to the hospital to help the poor to see the doctor. But this is the national situation in China, it is difficult to change anything. The effect of trigeminal neuralgia surgery is very good and can be said to be very miraculous, no pain immediately after surgery, which is difficult to achieve with any other surgery. Some trigeminal neuralgia is caused by a tumor in the brain, and surgery is very effective as well, because most of the tumors in this location are benign. Many elderly patients can be treated surgically with good results, the oldest we have done is 87 years old and they are all doing well. These are some of my rough feelings, and I will keep adding more later.
