Red eyes usually do not require drops because topical medication will work best. In general, different types of eye drops are given topically. For example, in bacterial conjunctivitis, we will give an antibiotic eye drop; in viral conjunctivitis, we will give an antiviral eye drop; in allergic conjunctivitis, we will give an anti-allergic eye drop, so that the topical medication is more effective. Generally speaking, acute conjunctivitis does not require drips unless there are systemic symptoms, such as high fever, swollen lymph nodes, or special severe acute conjunctivitis, and only in rare cases, some drip medication may be required. Generally speaking, no systemic medication will be used if local medication can be used to solve the problem.
