The preferred medication for thrombophlebitis needs to be chosen according to the type of disease.
For superficial thrombophlebitis, symptomatic treatment with anti-swelling and analgesic drugs and topical mucopolysaccharide polysulfate cream can also help to relieve the symptoms of superficial phlebitis. For deep vein thrombosis, the main aim of treatment is to prevent pulmonary embolism, especially in the early stages of the disease when the thrombus is loose, not tightly adherent to the vessel wall and easily dislodged, and should be treated with active anticoagulation. For acute thrombosis with higher involvement and greater thrombus load, local catheter thrombolysis under intervention can be considered. In cases of co-infection with bacterial infection, the corresponding antibiotic needs to be selected according to the type of bacteria infecting it.
