Timing of pregnancy in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection

Chronic HBV-infected patients planning pregnancy should have their liver function evaluated by an infectious disease or hepatology specialist as far as possible. Those whose liver function is always normal can get pregnant normally; those with abnormal liver function can get pregnant after normalization after treatment and discontinuation of medication for more than 6 months and after normal liver function on recheck. When anti-HBV treatment, contraceptive measures should be taken during the period of partial drug administration to avoid increasing the incidence of birth defects in newborns. The treatment has no significant effect on pregnant women in the middle and late stages of pregnancy, but the use of antiviral drugs during pregnancy must be cautious and a specialist should be consulted and the patient should be informed of the risks of drug use.
