For example, herpes zoster tends to involve the first branch of the trigeminal nerve causing pain. Demyelination, the cause of trigeminal neuralgia is demyelination of the sensory roots of the trigeminal nerve or the semilunar ganglion or the peripheral branches of the trigeminal nerve by compression or damage.
