Toxic bacillary dysentery is a serious intestinal infection, mainly transmitted by the faecal-oral route, and can be caused by contact with patients with dysentery or by eating contaminated food.
The disease has a rapid onset and is severe. Common symptoms include high fever, convulsions, severe headache and vomiting, drowsiness, impaired consciousness, etc. In severe cases, there may be wet and cold extremities, florid skin, decreased blood pressure, increased heart rate, variable pupil size and respiratory failure.
Patients’ intestinal symptoms are usually not obvious, but some patients can see abdominal pain and watery or mucopurulent blood stools, which can lead to serious symptoms such as infectious shock and toxic encephalopathy if not treated promptly, with a high mortality rate and easy residual effects.
