Peripheral cyanosis is a coldness or cyanosis of the skin at the end of the extremities or at the hypochondrium, which can subside after massage or local warming, and this is the main point of differentiation between peripheral cyanosis and central cyanosis. Peripheral cyanosis is usually seen in two conditions, bruising peripheral cyanosis and ischemic peripheral cyanosis. Stasis peripheral cyanosis is mainly seen in diseases with stasis of the body circulation, such as right heart failure with stasis of the body circulation, and lower extremity cyanosis with swelling of the lower extremities. Ischemic peripheral cyanosis is mainly seen in diseases with reduced cardiac output, most commonly in heart failure and shock due to various causes.
