Although povidone-iodine has some disinfecting effect, it has a limited effect in killing fungi and is generally not used in the treatment of dermatophytosis.
Iodine ions have strong oxidizing property, which can denature the amino acids and enzymes inside the bacteria, thus playing the role of disinfection. However, iodine povidone has a limited effect on fungal sterilization and is irritating to normal skin, so it is not suitable for the treatment of dermatophytosis.
Dermatophytosis is a fungal infectious disease caused by dermatophytes invading the body, such as tinea capitis, tinea corporis, tinea pedis and so on. Patients with dermatophytosis are recommended to consult the dermatology department of the hospital, usually based on drug treatment, commonly used systemic antifungal drugs such as itraconazole, fluconazole, terbinafine, etc., and topical antifungal drugs such as clotrimazole, ketoconazole and so on.
All of the above drugs should be used in strict accordance with medical advice.
