Indications and contraindications for excimer laser keratomileusis

  Excimer laser treatment of refractive error is currently recognized as a safe and effective means, but unlike other eye diseases, refractive error cannot restore or improve vision without surgical treatment, it is elective surgery, so the indications and contraindications for surgery must be strictly mastered.  The general indications for refractive surgery: 1, the patient has the desire for surgery; 2, the age of 18 years old or above; 3, into two years of stable refractive error, the development rate is not greater than 0.50D per year; 4, the refractive error of both eyes can not be the refractive reference; 5, the eye without active eye disease; 6, eye parameters meet the requirements of surgery; 7, the whole body without the disease restricted by surgery; 8, the patient understands the purpose of surgery and limitations of the surgery.  Secondary indications: 1. soft contact lenses should be discontinued for 1-2 weeks, and hard contact lenses should be discontinued for 2-3 weeks; 2. LASIK re-operation should be performed more than 3-6 months apart, PRK should preferably be performed more than 1 year apart, RK surgery should preferably be performed more than 2 years apart, and penetrating corneal transplantation should be performed more than 1.5 years after surgery.  Contraindications to refractive surgery: 1. Patients who do not require surgery; 2. Patients who have very high vision requirements and have great concerns about surgery; 3. Patients whose age does not meet the requirements for surgery; 4. Patients whose eye parameters do not meet the requirements for surgery; 5. Patients who have active speech lesions in the eye; 6. Patients who have anterior and posterior segment lesions affecting visual function; 7. Patients with systemic diseases that affect wound healing in the eye; 8. The patient’s occupation has restrictions on surgery.
