Symptoms of vitamin d3 toxicity in infants

Vitamin D3, cholecalciferol, is one of the important forms of vitamin D. Vitamin D toxicity is a systemic toxic disease caused by the ingestion of excessive preparations of vitamin D and its metabolites. Symptoms of vitamin D toxicity are varied but mostly nonspecific, such as hypercalcemia, generalized weakness, and lack of appetite, which in turn leads to abnormalities in various systems. They manifest as decreased appetite or anorexia, excessive thirst, nausea and vomiting, constipation or diarrhea; anemia, weight loss, and slow growth; decreased muscle strength and tone, bone and muscle pain, arthralgia, and joint oozing; and recurrent respiratory tract infections. In severe cases, cardiovascular, urinary and neurological symptoms may appear, such as increased blood pressure, bradycardia, atrioventricular block, ST-segment changes in ECG; frequent urination, polyuria, nocturia, dehydration, acidosis, protein, red blood cells and tubular changes in urine, and finally renal failure; neurological inattention, headache, drowsiness, disorientation, speech and audiovisual (calcification of ear drum) Disorders, irritability or depression, paranoia, hallucinations, ataxia, and acute intoxication may result in increased intracranial pressure and convulsions.
