Once allergy symptoms have occurred, the primary treatment is to control the allergy symptoms with relevant medications! Aggressive methods are used to avoid allergen exposure; immunotherapy (commonly known as desensitization therapy) can also be used if possible or practical. At present, our domestic hospitals mainly use medication, and the five commonly used drugs are glucocorticoids, allergic reaction mediators blockers, bronchodilators, vasoconstrictors, and skin medications. Each of them has many varieties, and there are also compound combinations of two kinds of drugs combined together. The specifics of each class of drugs will be described in later installments. Although immunotherapy was introduced in humans as early as 1911. It was not until 1997 that it was officially recognized by the World Health Organization as an etiological treatment for allergies. Immunotherapy has been carried out in China for many years with mixed results, the main reason being that immunotherapy has limitations. Not all allergens can be used as specific immunotherapy, and grass or tree pollen and insects such as dust mites have now been shown to be the most effective. Tree pollen is not very significant because of the milder and shorter duration of symptoms induced by tree pollen. Fungi are also effective, but are prone to adverse reactions. Animal dander tends to cause local or systemic reactions and is generally rarely used. House dust, tobacco, bacteria, food, drugs or other chemicals are not suitable. Therefore the selection of patients who are adapted to immunotherapy is very important, and unsuitable patients receiving immunotherapy is laborious and ineffective! Allergen avoidance (protection) is the most effective means of treating allergies! At present it is very badly carried out in our country. Patients like to go to hospitals and doctors have like to use medicines. This ignores the disease characteristics of allergic diseases. Allergic diseases must develop as a result of patient contact (active or passive), and as long as you avoid the substance that causes your allergy, you will not develop it. The best control is food allergens. When you find the food that causes your allergy, refuse to eat it and you will not be allergic. The next is indoor allergens, like dust mites, pet dander, etc. You can artificially control their concentration so that they don’t attack you. What is more difficult to control is the pollen and mold allergens floating in the air, you are passively exposed to them, the best way to deal with such allergens is to protect yourself, masks or leave the area with allergens is the best choice!
