Recently, Prof. Wan Feng performed coronary artery bypass surgery for an 83-year-old coronary heart disease patient from Yantai, Shandong Province under the condition of non-stop beating of the heart, and the surgery was very successful. The patient and his family expressed their gratitude to all the medical and nursing staff of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department. Prof. Wan Feng said that with the continuous improvement of people’s living standard and life expectancy in China, there are more and more patients with coronary heart disease of advanced age, but some of them cannot be solved by interventional methods such as “stenting” due to extensive lesions, and these patients have difficulty in tolerating the conventional extracorporeal circulation cardiac bypass because of their age and other diseases at the same time. The conventional cardiac bypass surgery under extracorporeal circulation, while the non-stop cardiac bypass can be completed under the condition of non-stop beating of the heart due to the special fixation device, so it has the characteristics of low blow to the patient and fast recovery after the surgery, even for the elderly patients, as long as the general condition of the patient can, the surgery can be completed.
