Will highland pulmonary edema heal on its own when you return to the mainland?

Whether altitude pulmonary edema will heal on its own when returning to the mainland depends on the severity of the disease, and cannot be generalized. The onset of altitude pulmonary edema usually occurs in areas above 3000 meters above sea level, caused by excessive speed of ascent, overwork, emotional stress, or upper respiratory tract infection, etc. It usually develops within 1-7 days, and early respiratory distress, chest tightness, coughing, coughing, headache, dizziness, etc. Severe cases may develop respiratory failure or even death. If the degree of pulmonary edema is relatively mild, it can generally heal itself after leaving the plateau area and taking proper bed rest. If the degree of pulmonary edema is relatively severe, even causing respiratory failure, resulting in hypercapnia and hypoxemia, timely oxygenation and active, effective treatment are required to alleviate it, and generally cannot be self-healed. It is recommended that patients should consider their own physical condition before entering the plateau area, do a strict health check, pay attention to keeping warm after arriving at the plateau, prevent cold, and avoid overexertion.
