The first reason for children’s red eyes is acute inflammation, children with trachoma often have red eyes and itchy eyes. Secondly, children with acute allergic conjunctivitis will have red, itchy eyes. This can be treated with topical drops of sodium cromoglycate and often with antihistamines such as loratadine or cetirizine.
