If the patient feels tightness in the chest, like something blocking, this condition may be due to coronary heart disease or heart failure. It is advisable to have an electrocardiogram to see if there is myocardial ischemia or arrhythmia during the onset of discomfort and symptoms, and to further check BNP, cardiac enzymes and cardiac ultrasound. Patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, or aortic stenosis, may also present with similar symptoms. Other patients may be in menopausal status or have cardiac neuropathy, and may also be prone to such discomfort. It is recommended that such patients have an ambulatory electrocardiogram, and that they have a lung CT and lung function. People with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung infection, or lung occupancy may also experience this discomfort.
