Is amoxicillin the drug of choice for sinusitis?

Sinusitis is a general term for inflammatory diseases that occur in the mucous membranes of the sinuses, and the drug of choice for its treatment is not necessarily amoxicillin; the treatment drug should be chosen according to the duration and cause of the disease. Sinusitis according to the duration of the disease, can be divided into acute sinusitis and chronic sinusitis. 1. Acute sinusitis: generally higher incidence, mostly due to upper respiratory tract infection or acute rhinitis. If it is clear that there is a bacterial infection, amoxicillin may be considered as a treatment option. For anaerobic infections, metronidazole or tinidazole is recommended. 2. Chronic sinusitis: it is mostly due to acute sinusitis that is not cured. Commonly used nasal spray glucocorticoids, such as budesonide nasal spray; macrolide antibiotics, such as clarithromycin; mucus drainage agents, such as eucalyptus-pin enteric soft capsule. Amoxicillin is often used as an anti-infective treatment for a short period of time. Surgery may be considered if the condition does not improve significantly. Therefore, the treatment of sinusitis needs to be based on different causes and symptom characteristics, and follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the selection of appropriate medication and treatment.
