In the clinic, many new mothers ask me if breast pumps can be used. My answer is that they can be used, but only when the milk ducts are very open and only for auxiliary purposes. Whether it is a manual or electric breast pump, the power is very light and the area of action is very narrow, only the milk near the areola can be sucked out, and only the milk in the shallow ducts can be sucked out. The milk around the breast and the milk in the deep ducts cannot be sucked out by the breast pump alone. Therefore, breastfeeding mothers are reminded that they must massage their breasts to clear the milk ducts before using a breast pump. It is also best to use your hand to push the milk from the root of the breast to the nipple area before using the breast pump, as this will prevent the milk from pooling around the breast area due to insufficient suction.
