Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Diagnosis, Typing and Treatment of Acne

Acne is known as pimples in Chinese medicine and can be treated with Chinese medicine according to different types of symptoms. For wind-heat symptoms in the lungs, loquat Qing Lung Drink can be used; for damp-heat symptoms in the stomach and intestines, new Artemisia Artemisia Tang can be used; and for phlegm-dampness stagnation symptoms, Er Chen Tang combined with Taohong Si Wu Tang can be used. Damp-heat syndrome of the stomach and intestines is characterized by greasy skin on the face, chest and back, red, swollen and painful rashes, accompanied by bad breath, short and yellow urine, constipation, with red tongue, yellow fur and slippery pulse; treatment is with the addition of Artemisia Incarnata Soup with subtractions. Phlegm-dampness stagnation syndrome is mainly manifested as dark red color of the rash, which does not heal for a long time, accompanied by dullness (no appetite, reduced food intake) and abdominal distension, with a dark red tongue, petechiae, yellowish greasy moss, and slippery pulse, treated with Er Chen Tang combined with Taohong Siwu Tang with additions and subtractions.
