The duration of the disease usually takes 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the condition. Cervical lymphadenitis is usually caused by acute and chronic lymphadenitis, usually due to bacterial and viral infections, and results in swollen, red, painful and uncomfortable cervical lymph nodes. Treatment involves antibiotics, antiviral and antipyretic medication. The pain and swelling of the lymph nodes may gradually resolve. If the lymph node swelling is significant or does not resolve with treatment, a lymph node aspiration biopsy may be necessary to clarify the diagnosis and rule out abnormalities such as lymphatic tuberculosis and malignant metastases.
