How long does itchy hands usually last after getting yam

Itchy hands after handling yam is mostly seen in contact dermatitis. Minor itching can recover on its own within a few hours, and serious cases can be cured in 2-3 days after anti-allergic treatment. Yam bark contains alkaloids, some patients will have local erythema, papules with itchy skin and other allergic reactions after contact with the substance. Immediately after an allergic reaction occurs, the patient needs to rinse the allergic area thoroughly with water for 15 minutes. For patients with mild symptoms, the itching may subside on its own after a few minutes or hours. If the allergic symptoms are more severe and the patient develops blisters, vesicles and exudation, after washing the local skin, you can apply topical anti-itch drops, such as Furamyl lotion, and take oral levocetirizine hydrochloride or loratadine tablets for anti-itch treatment, which can generally be cured in 2-3 days. The nutritional value of yam is relatively high and can be consumed in moderation, but it is best to wear gloves when cleaning or peeling yam to prevent allergy symptoms from occurring.
