Cracking of the hands and feet is most common in cold weather, and some people, such as those who work outdoors and those who soak their hands and feet in water for long periods of time, are prone to cracking. Other skin conditions can also cause cracked skin, such as ringworm, hand and foot eczema, ichthyosis and palmoplantar keratosis. These conditions can be combined with other symptoms such as itching and flaking of the skin in addition to cracked skin.
