Spasm of the muscles that govern the movement of the vocal folds or the entrance of the larynx. Etiology: 1. Local irritation: when foreign bodies pass or remain in the larynx during laryngeal examination or treatment, acute or subacute laryngitis, tumors at the edge of the vocal cords, excessive length of the uvula, etc. 2, laryngeal nerve irritation: lymph node enlargement in the neck or mediastinum, tumor, aortic aneurysm, tuberculosis, etc. lead to laryngeal nerve irritation. Nerve damage due to thyroid surgery. 3, central diseases: spinal consumption motor ataxia. Epilepsy often occurs laryngospasm, rabies laryngeal adductor spasm. 4, neurosis. Symptoms: 1. spasmodic cough 2. spasmodic loss of voice Examination: contact of both vocal folds during inspiration, extremely similar to paralysis of both adductor muscles, but actually spasm of the adductor muscles. Diagnosis: Intermittent examination of the neck, chest, larynx and nervous system. Treatment: Hot compresses on the neck during attacks; isoamyl nitrite; etiologic treatment for organic lesions; tracheotomy if necessary.
