If the bleeding is subcutaneous in a normal person, or in the elderly due to reduced vascular elasticity and subcutaneous bleeding during menstruation in women, etc. it can usually stop and absorb on its own and is not life threatening. However, if the subcutaneous bleeding is caused by serious haematological or systemic diseases, such as acute leukaemia, liver failure or malignant tumours, it may be life-threatening and requires prompt medical attention.
