The cost of IOL implantation varies from region to region, from hospital to hospital, and with the use of different consumables during the surgery. In the case of a single eye, the cost of lens implantation includes: the cost of surgery; the cost of intraoperative instruments, apparatus, operating room air purification, etc.; and the cost of intraoperative IOL and other materials and consumables. For example, in Beijing, the surgical instruments and apparatus used during the operation are all imported products, and the implanted IOL is an original imported product: 1.Surgical cost: about 1100 RMB, plus 30% for special difficult cases; 2.Intraoperative apparatus, apparatus, operating room air purification and other related costs: ultrasonic emulsifier and microscope (all imported apparatus): about 250-300 RMB. Costs related to operating room air purification, cardiac monitoring, etc.: about 150 RMB; 3. Intraoperative IOL and other materials and consumables: this is the major cost of surgery and the main source of out-of-pocket expenses. Intraoperative consumables include viscoelastic, perfusion solution, etc., about 600 RMB, of which 180 RMB are reimbursed for viscoelastic and 150 RMB for the difference; IOL cost: the cost of different IOLs varies greatly, and in order to ensure medical quality, the IOLs implanted in patients’ eyes during ultrasound emulsification in our hospital are imported folding IOLs tendered by the Beijing government, and the cost ranges from 2500-7700 RMB. The commonly used imported folded aspheric design IOLs for ultrasound mammography are about RMB 2500-5800, adjustable IOLs are about RMB 7000, and refractive and diffractive multi-intersection IOLs are about RMB 7000-15000; IOL reimbursement in Beijing is currently RMB 1216, and the difference is self-funded. In summary, the cost of IOL implantation includes the cost of surgery, intraoperative instruments, apparatus, operating room air purification and other related costs, intraoperative IOLs and other materials and consumables, which vary greatly depending on the IOL used.
