Can Hemorrhoid Surgery Cause Anal Stenosis

Hemorrhoid surgery does not usually result in anal stricture. This is because surgery for hemorrhoids only involves the treatment of the anal skin and mucosal layer and does not involve the muscles of the anus. A proper hemorrhoid surgery operation will not damage the anal sphincter. It is common to see patients who visit the clinic with symptoms of anal stenosis because of hemorrhoid surgery. The cause of this stenosis is usually that the incision design does not meet the specifications, too much damage to the anus, or simply more necrotic tissue caused by injected drugs and more post-operative scar formation, leading to the stenosis of the anus. Even if a certain degree of anal stricture occurs, the treatment can be achieved by dilation or surgical release at a later stage.
