As we age, many older adults experience tooth pain from eating hot and cold foods, which is medically known as “dentin sensitivity”. The first step is to find out the cause of dentin sensitivity and to target it. Since dentin sensitivity in the elderly is mostly caused by tooth wear, its treatment is mainly to take local desensitization, in order to isolate external stimuli, to relieve the symptoms of sensitivity. If pulp lesions have occurred, endodontic treatment is required. Now we provide several methods of self-desensitization at home for reference: 1. Chewing tea or raw walnuts can be effective in removing allergies from the biting surface. 2. Rub raw garlic on the sensitive area of teeth for 2-3 minutes to receive desensitization effect. 3.For allergy caused by wedge-shaped defect in the neck of several teeth, use cotton dipped in some fluoride toothpaste or pure glycerin and rub the allergic area by yourself, which can also receive certain desensitizing effect. 4.Select an effective desensitizing toothpaste for long-term use. For the special situation of the oral cavity of the elderly, in addition to the prevention of tooth decay, trauma, the occurrence and development of periodontitis, the main attention to prevent the excessive wear of raw teeth. Eat less hard food, avoid the sudden change of cold and hot temperature to stimulate the tooth pulp; set the teeth in time to reduce the heavy wear of the remaining teeth caused by overburden, etc.
