In simple terms, literally, it means that the intestine is trapped; medically, a section of intestine trapped in the adjacent intestinal cavity is called intussusception.
Acute intussusception occurs mostly in children aged 4-10 months, while chronic intussusception occurs mostly in older children and adults. Etiology: changes in the nature and pattern of diet. Inflammatory lesions of the intestinal tract. Irritation by intestinal parasites and their toxins. Neuromuscular incoordination disorders or tendencies. Adenovirus infection. In older children, it is individually associated with intestinal polyps, intestinal repetitive malformations, and Meckel’s diverticulum.
The type of the disease is: single intussusception if there is only one segment of intestinal tube, and compound intussusception if the intestine is reinserted into another adjacent intestine, but it is not common. According to the different parts of the sleeve, it can be divided into ileocecal sleeve (ileum sleeve into colon), small intestine sleeve (small intestine sleeve into small intestine) and colon sleeve (colon sleeve into colon), etc.
The manifestations of children (1) abdominal pain: the first thing that appears is paroxysmal crying, intermittent quiet. Ninety percent of intussusceptions have abdominal pain. Currently most family members visit the clinic first because the child is always sleeping poorly.
(2) Vomiting: Nowadays, due to more timely detection by parents, there are fewer cases of vomiting than before. However, some parents are not aware of the situation and delay the consultation, and this is the time when vomiting appears. In the early stage, it is stomach contents, followed by bile, and in the late stage, fecal residue. Of course, the later the consultation, the more serious the condition. (3) Bloody stool: The stool is jam-colored. Natural discharge or anal finger diagnosis reveals bloody stools in 90% of cases.
