Flint gum infants are a symptom descriptive diagnosis and are not a separate disease in themselves. Flint-gum-like infants can be the earliest manifestation of a variety of hereditary ichthyoses, such as lamellar ichthyosis and congenital herpetic ichthyosis, and can also be seen in some abnormal skin keratosis disorders, such as Netherton’s syndrome.
