Moxibustion can be used as an adjunctive treatment for uterine fibroids, but uterine fibroids are mainly treated with oral herbal medicine that activates blood circulation and removes blood stasis (promotes blood circulation and eliminates blood stasis in the body), and softens and disperses knots (softens and disperses hardened lumps). The effectiveness of moxibustion treatment is affected by the number of fibroids, their size, and the patient’s own condition. Moxibustion for fibroids is generally used as an adjunctive treatment, not as a primary treatment. Uterine fibroids are considered to be caused by qi stagnation and blood stasis (stagnation of blood due to lack of qi), phlegm-dampness stasis (stagnation of phlegm-dampness and blood), qi deficiency and blood stasis (lack of qi leading to ineffective operation of blood), and dampness-heat stasis (stagnation of blood due to accumulation of dampness and heat). They are usually solid tumors, so it is generally difficult to cure them through moxibustion treatment alone. The therapeutic effect is affected by the number of fibroids, their size and the patient’s own condition. Depending on the cause, patients with fibroids can take oral medications such as Rock Deer Lukang Tablets, Anti-Crime Pills, Breast Fetish (Dispersing Knot Tablets, Gui Zhi Fu Ling Pills, Hematopoietic Blood Stasis Tang, and Tetrapterygium Soft Firmament Pills, etc. to activate the blood and remove stagnation (to promote the blood circulation and eliminate stagnation of the blood in the body), and soften and disperse knots (to soften and dissipate the hard lumps). If necessary, the patient should receive Western medical treatment such as radiotherapy or surgery. If medication is needed, it should be used under a doctor’s supervision.
