What are the possible causes of discomfort in the throat?

Often patients will point to the neck and say they have throat discomfort, the specific discomfort is probably several conditions 1, a feeling of blockage, foreign body, or burning, dryness in the pharynx; 2, throat itching, cough, especially worse at night, dry cough or thin sputum, sticky white sputum; 3, discomfort from the referred neck to the back of the sternum, especially when swallowing; 4, pain in the pharynx, aggravated when swallowing.
