Chinese medicine prescriptions for the treatment of phytoneurosis (autonomic nervous disorder) include Radix Rehmanniae Pill, Tonic Heart Pill, and Shengwei San, depending on the type of symptoms.
1. Radix Rehmanniae Pill: This formula is suitable for treating phytosis with deficiency of spleen and kidney yang and gastric dyscrasia (obstruction of gastric circulation and descending), which manifests as vague pain in the stomach and epigastrium, nausea, fear of cold and chills, self-consciousness of vibrating water in the stomach, loose stools, and long and clear urine, and is suitable for warming and tonifying the spleen and kidney and lowering the rebelliousness and stopping vomiting by adding and subtracting Radix Rehmanniae Pill (to block upward gastric qi, and to stop vomiting).
2. Tonifying Cardiac Dans: This formula is suitable for vegetative nerve disorder with deficiency of yin in the heart and kidney and sublimation of yang in the liver, manifesting as heartburn and insomnia, palpitation, slight trembling of hands and night sweating (abnormal sweating after going to sleep, but sweating stops after waking up). It is suitable to use Tonifying Cardiac Dans with additions and subtractions to nourish the heart and kidney, calm the liver and submerge yang (to inhibit too much yang qi from rising in the liver).
3. Sheng Wei San: This formula is suitable for phytosis with deficiency of both Qi and Yin, manifesting as mental fatigue, shortness of breath, hot flashes and night sweating, and poor appetite; adding or subtracting Sheng Wei San to nourish Qi and nourish Yin is recommended.
