Weight loss can reverse non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and it is the basic treatment for NAFLD. Severe NAFLD may also need to be supplemented with treatment modalities such as medications and/or surgery. Alcohol abuse, obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, abnormal lipid metabolism, and high-fat diets are among the causes of fatty liver disease. It can be categorized into non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and alcoholic fatty liver disease (ALD). Treatment mainly includes etiological treatment, basic treatment (weight loss, etc.), drug treatment (insulin sensitizer, etc.), surgical treatment and so on. 1. Etiologic treatment: it includes abstinence from alcohol (prohibition), lowering fat intake, controlling blood sugar, etc. Among them, abstinence from alcohol is the most important treatment for ALD. Among them is the most important treatment for ALD of alcohol cessation. 2. Basic treatment: including exercise therapy and diet therapy. Scientific weight loss and reasonable diet help to restore liver function. Too rapid weight loss may aggravate liver injury. Nutritional imbalance should also be corrected. 3. Pharmacological treatment: ① polyene phosphatidylcholine: it is a kind of drug that has repairing effect on liver cell membrane; ② insulin sensitizer: metformin, etc., which can be used for NAFLD combined with type 2 diabetes mellitus; ③ lipid-lowering drugs: it can be used for NAFLD combined with high blood lipid, such as simvastatin, etc., which need to test the liver function, and combine with hepatoprotecting drugs if necessary. 4. Surgical treatment: mainly bariatric surgery, suitable for people with lifestyle change, poor drug treatment effect and obesity-related diseases. Fatty liver disease needs to be treated in time, it is recommended to consult the hospital and use drugs under the guidance of the doctor.
