Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment for Fatty Liver

Fatty liver belongs to the category of “Liver Fetish” in Chinese medicine. In traditional Chinese medicine, it can be divided into liver depression and qi stagnation (poor qi and blood transportation of the liver, depression), liver depression and spleen deficiency, phlegm and dampness internal obstruction (phlegm and dampness obstructing the internal organs and meridians), damp-heat accumulation and knotting, etc. According to the different types of evidence, the patient can take Chai Hu Shuo Liver San with subtraction, Free and Easy San with subtraction, Er Chen Tang with subtraction and Artemisia Insectica Tang with subtraction. 1. It can be treated with the addition of Chai Hu Shuo Liver San. 2. Liver Depression and Spleen Deficiency: distension and tightness in the abdomen and ribs, depression, fatigue, abdominal pain and diarrhea, abdominal distension, poor appetite, nausea and vomiting. It can be treated with the addition and subtraction of Puan Shen. 3. Phlegm-dampness internal obstruction syndrome: obesity, discomfort or distension in the right side of the body, drowsiness and heaviness around the body, sticky stools, fullness in the epigastrium (abdomen), fatigue and weakness, dullness (lack of appetite, reduced food intake), dizziness and nausea. It can be treated with the addition and subtraction of Er Chen Tang. 4. Damp-Heat Conjugation Syndrome (Dampness and heat evils are agglomerating (gathering) in the body): distension and pain in the right coercive and ribcage area, drowsiness, fullness or pain in the epigastric region, sticky stools, yellow eyes and eyes, yellow urine, sticky and greasy mouth, and dryness and bitterness in the mouth. It can be treated with the addition and subtraction of Yin Chen Artemisia Tang. It is recommended that the patient’s diet should be light and the medication should be taken under the guidance of a doctor.
