A raphe mediastinal tumor is a tumor that grows in the mediastinal region below the raphe.
The mediastinal zone is the area behind the sternum, in front of the spine, and below the sternal stalk, which consists of both lungs. The mediastinal region is bounded by the heart and can be divided into the anterior mediastinum and posterior mediastinum, with the middle mediastinum where the large blood vessels of the heart are located.
Mediastinal tumors are a common group of tumors and are generally divided into benign and malignant tumors. Benign tumors commonly include nerve sheath tumors from the posterior mediastinum. Malignant tumors, on the other hand, are seen at various sites.
Subxiphoid mediastinal tumors are generally defined as mediastinal tumors occurring in the region of the xiphoid process, and tumors occurring in this region can undergo subxiphoid mediastinal tumor resection.
