To investigate the outcome of patients with isolated peri-acetabular bone metastases who underwent lumpectomy and reconstruction of the tumor, and to assess their oncological outcomes, complications, and function METHODS: Fifteen patients who underwent resection of peri-acetabular metastases and reconstruction with a group-configured artificial hemi-pelvic prosthesis are summarized. RESULTS: Eleven patients survived and the other four died from the tumor. The follow-up time was 32 months for the surviving patients and 11 months for the deceased patients. A total of 3 patients had local recurrence, 1 of which underwent amputation. 5 patients had superficial wound infections that healed after debridement. 2 patients had dislocation of the articular prosthesis and underwent closed repositioning. All patients achieved pain relief and 10 patients were able to ambulate outdoors. The mean MSTS93 functional score was 20.9 out of 30, which was achieved in 69.7%. According to the modified Allan scoring system, postoperative scores were significantly higher than preoperative scores in terms of pain, independence, and mobility. CONCLUSION: Whole tumor resection and reconstruction with a grouped hemi-pelvic prosthesis in patients with isolated peri-acetabular metastases can result in long-term survival, local control of the tumor, a low complication rate, and good functional recovery.
