What is integrated treatment?

The concept of multimodality therapy is to rationally and systematically apply the best combination of existing treatment means according to the patient’s specific situation, such as body condition, pathological type, invasion range (pathological staging) and development trend, with a view to improving the cure rate, prolonging the survival period, and improving the patient’s quality of life by a large margin. Integrated treatment of tumor is not simply a combination of several treatment methods such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, biotherapy and traditional Chinese medicine, but a systematic treatment process, a planned, step-by-step and sequential synthesis of individualized treatments, which requires effective multidisciplinary collaboration of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy to be successfully completed. The comprehensive treatment program is not a mechanical unchanging pattern, and will be adjusted appropriately with the gradual improvement of the diagnosis and the difference of the therapeutic effect in the specific diagnosis and treatment process.
