Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is a chronic complication of diabetes mellitus with a complex etiology that may involve atherosclerotic vascular disease and microangiopathy, metabolic factors, autoimmune mechanisms, and growth factor deficiencies. It manifests a series of symptoms including numbness, pain, burning sensation and ants sensation in the limbs. The presentation of diabetic peripheral neuropathy is usually symmetrical from side to side, typically with a glove or sock-like distribution. Patients experience symmetrical numbness, pain and pins and needles sensation in both feet and hands, which seriously affects their quality of life. Therefore, diabetic patients need to actively control blood glucose under the guidance of doctors to prevent complications such as diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
