There are many causes of scalp itching, with skin conditions being the most common, including inflammatory and infectious skin diseases. Common disorders include seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and dryness. The degree of itching is related to the type and severity of the disease. Psychogenic disorders such as anxiety, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and parasitic paranoia are also important causes of scalp itching.
