The pathogenesis of itchy scalp is complex and there are no specific drugs for a radical cure and it is impossible to say exactly which treatment is the best. Treatment principles include elimination of aggravating factors and appropriate treatment of the underlying condition to reduce the degree of scalp itching. Depending on the underlying mechanism, the choice of treatment option should follow the pathological process.
Treatment of scalp pruritus is rarely systemic and when local treatment is not effective, an individualised systemic treatment plan is developed based on the severity of the scalp itch, the patient’s general condition and the expected adverse effects of treatment. Pre-treatment home management: avoid scratching the scalp to cause ulceration and infection. Post-treatment home management: follow medical advice to take medication on time and in the right dose, keep the head hygienically clean and rinse off after using shampoo or conditioner.
