Most ovarian ruptures heal spontaneously with conservative treatment and do not affect fertility. However, in some patients with acute and severe disease, surgical treatment should preserve as much of the ovary’s endocrine and reproductive function as possible to reduce the chances of infertility. Very rarely, surgical treatment requires removal of the ovaries or ovaries and uterus, which can affect fertility.
