Urine glucose
Some hospital urine reports show “glucose”, and normal people can have trace amounts of glucose in their urine, ranging from 0.1 to 0.3 grams of sugar per day, up to 0.9 grams, which is a negative result.
If the urine is positive for glucose, it is an important clue to diagnose diabetes, but a negative result does not rule out diabetes, especially type 2 diabetes, and needs to be seen in conjunction with other results.
Urine albumin
If proteinuria is found on urinalysis, it suggests that the patient may have diabetic nephropathy.
Urinary ketone bodies
A normal result should be negative; a positive result suggests possible diabetic ketoacidosis or increased lipolysis due to low carbohydrate intake for various reasons, i.e., starvation ketosis.
